IAS Annual Fundraiser

to Benefit

Avian Research and Conservation

Saturday at 6:30 pm IAS will host our major fund raising activity, a carnival, dinner, and auction. We wish to make this a fun-filled family event. Again, proceeds from these activities benefit Avian Research and Conservation. Participants will be treated to a carnival games and activities in booths around the Baltic pool area. A children's playground and miniature golf are also available for the amusement of little ones. We will be importing a well known "psychic" from the wilds of South Carolina who specializes in avicultural palm readings. A talented Virginian will read Tarot cards, palms, and belly dance among the crowd accepting donations for the birds. A "dunk tank" will be in place such that your frustrations with your officers, BOD, and other volunteers can be relieved in a socially acceptable fashion. A number of treats are in store with dinner items commensurate with the theme. We are looking for items to be donated for the raffles and auction. Smaller items will be raffled and larger items will be auctioned. We expect it to be a great time for all, with the birds the big winners. Please help!

Tours: Chartered Buses depart and return to hotel at indicated times.

8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Busch Gardens Tour For those with a full day, we are chartering buses to Busch Gardens. Busch Gardens is much more than an amusement park although the young at heart can certainly find an entertaining day there. "Kumba, the largest and fastest roller coaster in the southeastern United States, roars through the Congo on 3,978 feet of steel at a speed of 60 miles per hour. Featuring three "firsts" in roller coaster technology - the world's largest vertical loop, a diving stunt plane maneuver, and a 360 degree spiraling camelback - Kumba takes riders to heights of 143 feet, and provides a maximum gravity force of 3.75."

Busch's avian nursery area is behind glass so viewers can see a portion of their hand raising operation. In excess of 3000 animals reside in the zoological park. The "Serengeti Plain" and "Congo" areas are accessible by foot, monorail, train or sky ride. Myombe Reserve: The Great Ape Domain is not to be missed. Rides, shows and attractions are included in the price of admission. The drive to Tampa Gardens is an hour and 15 minutes by bus.

9:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Discovery Island Tour We will have an approximately a four hour tour to Discovery Island in the Disney World Complex. This is an eleven acre sanctuary with over 100 species of animals and 250 species of plants inhabiting this natural island. Visitors can expect to see Toucans, Kuckaburras, Scarlet Ibis, Trumpeter Swans, African Crowned Cranes, large Red- browed Sandhill Cranes, the smaller Demoiselle Cranes, Pelicans, Hornbills, Muntjac Deer, Golden Lion Tamarins, Ring Tailed Lemurs, Alligators, Galapagos Tortoises, in addition to numerous native birds which use Discovery Island as a safe haven.
