IAS has traditionally provided a open forum for speakers and participants to express their opinion.  As previous, we have not presumed to edit the content of any of our speakers’ submissions.  The opinions expressed are those of the authors.  Minor formatting changes have been made for publication consistency. Where applicable, we have endeavored to provide appropriate contact information.

Readers of previous proceedings should note that the Chlamydia psittaci and the Psittacosis issues have undergone major nomenclature changes since our last convention and publications.  New biochemical techniques have greatly altered our understanding of this group of infectious diseases.  The new name for the Psittacosis organism is Chlamydophilia.

We were very pleased to have representatives discussing successful, ongoing conservation programs from the Caribbean and Brazil.  Stephen Durand was our guest from Dominica who spoke about their ongoing efforts. The Friends of the St. Vincent Amazon Foundation (FSVAF) sponsored his travel expense. The Canadian WPT is to be commended for their financial assistance to this project. Carlos Yamishita gave a field report on Guarouba guaruba which has also been partially supported by WPT. Amos Glasglow representing AvianEyes and Fitzgerald Providence of the Forestry Department of St. Vincent presented their programs and objectives. Their travel expenses were sponsored by FSVAF. Neiva Maria Robaldo Guedes of Brazil discussed their work with the the Hyacinth Macaw.  Although our net proceeds from the auction were much lower than that from previous conventions, we did net approximately $4000.00 which was distributed to the Hyacinth Macaw Project, the St. Vincent Projects, and PDD research at the University of Georgia

BIRDTALK is to be commended for hosting a food and hospitality function which allowed our registrants, exhibitors and speakers to interface and network in a relaxed atmosphere.

Again, we wish to express appreciation to Mark Hagen for his financial and personal support.

Thanks to everyone who helped and participated..
